What is Stand By Me?
Stand by Me is a UK-wide research project exploring relationships between couples with a learning disability, run in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland, the University of Edinburgh, and Key and Community Lifestyles. Inspired by Andrew – a married man with a learning disability and dementia – the project celebrates love, connection, and support.
Named after their first dance at Andrew and his wife Lynn’s wedding, Stand by Me has received several awards, including Empowering Self Management at the Self Management Scotland Awards 2024, and Diversity awards at both the UK Dementia Care Awards 2024 and the Herald & GenAnalytics Awards 2023.
